Holidays in Greece

The beginning of Tourism as an effect is estimated at the middle of the 3rd Millennium B.C. That’s ever since the need of human to move further from his residence, developed into a need to create ways of transportation, overland and maritime roads, and lodgments.
The reasons that we are eager to Travel to various destinations can be categorized, varying at the natural, cultural, social or artificial attraction, the facilities, the service provided, the easiness to approach the tourist spot, as well as the potential cost of the visit.
Our goal is to provide information, suggestions and useful tips. Besides the introductory analysis of Tourism as a phenomenon, we are more interested in its manageable range as well as in the practical point of view. The only thing you have to do is to relax back in your seat and surf in our website with a holiday spirit!.

The Tourism and the ideal of Hospitality, have a long tradition in Greece. At the ancient times, offering a shelter to the visitors was usually the only choice, especially if there weren’t any lodgements at the area. The Ancient Greek Sanctuaries often provided shelter at a spare building, especially during Olympic Games and/or Sacred Holidays.
In ancient Greece, the ideal of “Hospitality” was born and evolved, and that explains why the Olympian god Zeus, was named as “Xenios” which means protector of the outlanders. A traveler’s arrival to his destination was under the feeling of safety, because, besides the written human laws, there was the protection provided by the Divine command of Zeus. Traditionally, the guests would receive gifts offered by their hosts as an evidence of appreciation.
Nowadays, this institution is not a faint memory of the glorious past, but a vivid and bright tradition and the determinant difference of Greece amongst other Travel destinations. The 80% of the surface of Greece is covered by mountains and the rest 20%, by valleys and lowland areas. The continuous alteration of these geographic features, as we travel through this Land, forms a particularly unique geomorphologic complex, which characterizes the richly varied surface of Greece.
These features also explain why Greece offers so many often contradictious choices to the visitors. Those of us who live in this country, lets think twice before we decide to travel abroad, looking for a canyon to cross, a mountain to climb or a beach with turquoise colored water, to swim in.You can also retrieve information about the weather, available accommodation facilities, transportation, archaeological sites, best beaches, and much more....
Information about Greece has been divided according to the geographical location in the categories that follow.By selecting each category you can see photographs of each territory and get a general idea of it's special character.
